"Heroes & Haters"
Blake is a twelve-year-old African-American boy. One day while watching Saturday morning cartoons, he notices that there are not many black superheroes. After overcoming his fears and shortcomings, an angel-like being gives him the power to be the superhero he always wanted to be. But Blake soon learns that having superpowers does not necessarily make him a superhero. On his journey he discovers that there are many heroes that go unrecognized every day. And that there are also those who wish for things to go unchanged. Through the relationship with his mother and the interactions with his friends and peers, Blake begins to see the changes that he needs to make. Blake’s journey begins his sixth grade year. Through the use of his new powers, he goes on an action-packed ride that deals with the social problems of middle school. And school will never be the same.
